Don’t Go Stingy on Spacing!

Received a resume today from a guy in a top physics Ph.D. program in the U.S. The one-page resume was typed in an 8- or 9-point sarif font and there was little space between letters, words or lines. I got a headache from just looking at it — it was in the mid-afternoon and I’d had a long day. I put it in the recycle bin.

Use spacing judiciously on your resume! Remember many readers are probably middle-aged and they probably need reading glasses to read anything smaller than a 12-point font. Do them — and yourself — a favor; make your resume readable and pleasant to the eye! (You’ll thank me for this later.)
